Discovered in Stone presents original stone carvings by Chinese artisans using three major types of stone: Shoushan, Qingtian, and Balin, rich with symbols of Chinese culture and the detailed renderings of the pieces are impressive and unforgettable. Curator William Harris, PhD Stanford and Fulbright Fellow is a UCSB graduate in Asian studies with long standing experience in the visual, literary and performing arts. The show stems from his interest in works of the hand and an orientation to the materials of nature.
